The work

The University of Makeni (UNIMAK) long ago established programs for teachers to acquire skills to work with children and youth with hearing impairments. Recently, they began expanding their teacher training to include other disability areas. Our work this year will address all aspects of this initiative from program development (including the development of a teacher certificate, a Bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s degree in Special Needs Education) to professional development for practicing teachers and community outreach to increase awareness and acceptance around disabilities.
